Hello Spring: SSS Flickr Challenge #42

The theme for the forty-second Simon Says Challenge is things that remind us of spring.

Bright colored flowers always remind me of spring. Spring colors are always so fresh and vivid which is such a contrast from the gray days of winter. I used bright colors for my flowers and bright green for the stems. I imitated the bright flower beds I see planted in the spring.

I added butterflies that were punched out of bright pink cardstock using an old Martha Stewart’s punch.

This card is fairly simple no special stamping techniques and I didn’t add any special background because I just wanted all the flowers and butterflies to pop.

Have a Beautiful Day: Ellen Hutson Mix-It-Up-Challenge

The September, 2015 Ellen Hutson Mix It Up Challenge requires combining any Essentials by Ellen and Impression Obsession products.  Impression Obsession makes some great red rubber cling background stamps and I have collected a few. The line of Essentials by Ellen clear stamps has a number of beautiful floral images. All the images are quite versatile and can be used in a number of ways.

For this challenge I decide to use florals in my card composition. So, I combined Impression Obsession’s Doodle Flowers 6”x6” background stamp with floral images from Ellen’s Bohemian Garden. I think the images from both brands really coordinate well and I am quite pleased with the results. I hope you like the final creation as well.

I first stamped the cling background piece onto an A2-sized piece white cardstock using a pinky-coral ink. I cut the stamped A2 piece in half along the diagonal. I then took a piece of A2-sized blush-pink cardstock and randomly stamped several of the Bohemian Garden images on it using the same pinky-coral ink used on the white cardstock piece. Note: I drew a diagonal pencil mark from corner to corner on the blush-pink cardstock as a guide to mark off the area I was going to create my background. I didn’t stamp the entire area of the blush-pink cardstock, only the area that would show.

I then adhered the white piece of stamped cardstock onto the bottom half of the stamped blush-pink cardstock. This served as the front of my card. I die-cut a narrow frame from gold metallic cardstock from my stash.  I used two dies from Papertrey Ink’s Mat Stack #1 dies to make the frame. Then using the larger of the two dies, I cut a vellum piece, and heat embossed the sentiment (also from Bohemian Garden) using gold embossing powder onto it. The sentiment piece was adhered to the back of the gold frame and gold sequins were added to finish the look. I adhered the entire frame to the front of the card and the card front was mounted onto a top-folding landscape-oriented card base.

Super Duper Birthday Card

This birthday card was made for one of my daughters.  Though she is not a child any more, she still appreciates receiving whimsical, fun cards from her Mom. Love that bit of child that is still in her!

Love these Tiny Heroes stamp set from Mama Elephant. The images are so cute and perfect to color. I used my Copic markers to color the super hero and the curved skyline. Though I used a skyline stamp from an old obsolete Studio Calico stamp set, I think you could use any of the more current skyline stamps to create a similar look.

The female hero was stamped, colored and then die-cut using the coordinating die set for the Tiny Heroes stamps and then mounted using foam tape to add a bit of dimension.

I used primary colors of red, blue, yellow and green to convey the look and feel of a comic book character.

I created the sentiment for this card from a couple of stamp sets. The “Super Duper” was from the Tiny Heroes stamp set. I inked the” Super Duper” separately, masking off all the other words from the sentiment using painters tape before inking and then removing the tape before stamping onto the cardstock. I then used the individual words “have”, “a” and “birthday” from an Impression Obsession clear stamp word set called Sentiments I. I placed these words on small acrylic blocks and stamped them separately.

I love this stamp set for two reasons. Firstly, the individual words are in a nice font, and secondly, there are lots of different words. These two reasons make it so versatile that you can create your own sentiment or alter a sentiment from another stamp set, like I did here to make a completely new sentiment.

Impression Obsessions has another word set, Sentiments II the words in that set are all in caps, in a block font and focus more on holidays and occasions. It’s a great set to have as well. I love it when I can use some basic stamp sets to help me stretch my stamps.
